Soul Band (Ongoing)

During the School's Formal

I have put in a lot of commitment into Soul Band from being a back-up singer to now being the lead. I’ve been in the soul band for approximately 3 years now and will truly miss the experience of this extra-curricular activity when I leave school for university. The soul band is an ongoing activity which I want to continue until I leave school.

DURING THE ROUND SQUARE CONFERENCE 'WE WALK TOGETHER'...

Singing songs such as ‘Respect’ by Aretha Franklin has helped me to gained more confidence in the field of singing. Before the performance of Respect, I never knew I could sing the song properly as Aretha sings it high and well. During the Round Square Conference hosted by our school the soul band had an opportunity to play for adults during their ‘chill out’ session in the principles garden. However, even though no one managed to clap as we were the background music, I enjoyed myself. Personally I surprised myself as I managed to sing ‘Respect’ successfully. I believe that I am aware of my develop in singing as personally I improved my level were now I am able to reach higher notes. I was afraid my voice would crack therefore due to embarassment I would not even try to push my limits before.

Even though dwelling is not a great path to take as I try to stay positive, honestly I do sometimes regret not taking music as a subject for at IGCSE level and also in IB because I could really improve and thus embrace my ability further. However, I have to perceive optimistically and therefore find other opportunities to strive in what I cherish most.
