What is the Glove Dance/Performance?
The glove performance was choreographed by Yeoi Shin Jung, a friend of mine for the Student Stirring Committee to perform in front of all the delegates during the ‘We Walk Together’ Round Square Conference held in our school. The performance required us all to wear black clothing and white gloves while the UV light makes the gloves glow in darkness. We produced many shapes and images through the theme song of the conference called ‘We Walk Together’ composed by Amit Garg. The images included hearts, birds, the earth, footsteps and words such as ‘WALK’.
Progress...
We practiced every week on Tuesdays after school, firstly without the UV lights or the gloves. We all had to work as a team to ensure clarity within the connection of hands because the audience must receive the message we are trying to convey. Building the performance was quite difficult as there were clashes of opinions on how things should be. I personally felt at points when my opinions were not being heard. However, I tried to comprehend others’ point of views and came into consensus with their opinions.
Therefore, my initial aims and goals which I wanted to achieve from the Glove Performance were...
The main elements which I personally wanted to gain from taking part in the Glove Performance is that I wanted to become open-minded within the group I am working with. Therefore, to express my own viewpoints as well as accepting other individual's creative ideas such as those of Yeoi Shin's. Moreover, another principle which I want to become is to be balanced in a sense that I have to go into practice after school on Tuesdays on top of my original studies.
Afterwards...
The performance was a success in the informal opening of the Round Square ‘We Walk Together conference hosted by our school. Audiences were amazed. Therefore, we performed it again for the closing ceremony which bought us all in tears in the end as we have work on the performance and the conference for over a year.
What did I personally achieved through this activity?
By working with the stirring committee through the glove performance, I believe that I became in a sense closer to them all as a group. I love to work with others as I've learned by listening to everyone's opinion is effective in building ideas and thus succeeding. I believe that I've gained patience in working with others which usually is not presense in myself. Team-work was our key and we have truly shown this through our glove performance. Therefore, I believe that I was able to work collaboratively with other individuals. Moreover, I believe that I've achieved my goals in balancing my time wisely as I had to practice with the group every Tuesday after school. I've managed to work around the time.
