The whole school community gathered before the start of the big challenge!
What is the Pattaya to Phi Phi Challenge and the event's aim?
The Pattaya to Phi Phi challenge was held in school where the main objective was to raise money for charities e.g. regarding the Tsunami which occurred in the south of Thailand, including the island of Phi Phi. The money raised will help to re-construct schools or used for other purposes in re-building the area. Therefore, the goal for the school as a whole was to either walk, run, swim or roller skate to reach the distance from Pattaya to Koh Phi Phi. The sponsor money collected from different supporters will contribute in developing Koh Phi Phi.
What were my personal aims which I would like to achieve from the event?
My personal aim regarding this event is that I hope to become significantly more principled. This event contributes largely to the people on Koh Phi Phi, therefore the more you run or swim, the more your sponsors pay you. Due to this challenging event, I want to show fairness. In other words, showing the sportsmanship in not cheating the hours. Slightly manipulating the hours which you have exercised may be easy in increasing the money for charity, however this is an offensive act which does not present an individual to be principled. My aim is to carry on with either running, swimming and roller-blading even if it is tough (as I have a low fitness level at the moment). Also, how ever many hours I do, even if its just a little bit, I will take this on board and record the hours. I will not manipulate the hours, even if it's at the slightest.
Why is this event Action?
Even though this Pattaya to Phi Phi event can also be classified into Service, I want it to be Action. This is because I want to challenge myself to see how many hours I can do exercising (with breaks ofcourse). I will be taking part in cardiovascular-based sports such are running, swimming and roller-blading.
How have I planned and initiated in contributing to the event?
Before the event started, me and my friends had to significantly planned what we were going to do as a group. The first thing that we had to figure out was the name of the group. We called ourselves 'Shark Bait Whoohaha'. This name was taken from a cartoon called 'Finding Nemo'. Later on, we had to plan how are we going to get the sponsor money and who are we going to ask to get the money. Moreover, we also had to plan who was doing which exercise and for how long as we would like to make around 2000 baht for Koh Phi Phi. Lastly, our costumes. We decided to wear pink tutus (as seen in the images) and a pink headband with the black t-shirt and stockings. All of these materials had to either be made or brought which we later on organised.
Did I achieve what I planned?
We managed to raise over 2000 baht as a group! I believe that I have significantly became a principled individual through running for 3 hours and swimming for approximately 4 hours which in my opinion is a personally achievement. Also, through this event of exercises I was able to increase my awareness for growth in sports. Currently, my fitness level is quite low through the challenges present. This included the ability to carry on with the running even if it's killing you...I also take part in the sport football. Through this challenge I am able to identify that I need more exercise in increasing my cardiovascular fitness level. Therefore, through exercise more I will be able to improve my cardiovascular fitness for sports such as football which demands you to run around the pitch efficiently.
